Individual Category I have been a judge for the C&W Childnet Awards for the last five years and in that time I have seen some incredible work by young people, teachers and parents who have wanted to use the Internet to inspire children and communicate across traditional borders of geography, language and culture. As I assessed the entries this year, what struck me most was that as well as the normal depth in terms of ideas, participation and content, was an amazing leap in quality of design and technical sophistication. For example, to have produced a website which allows over 50,000 children to design their own home page would be an outstanding accomplishment for the best siliconvalley Internet company, – that matmice was produced by 3 young sisters working without any adult support is breathtaking! For a single teacher to have taught himself multimedia and then to have produced such a beautiful, engaging non-commercial web site such as Froguts is exceptional. And for two Russian psychologists to design a site which uses the Internet and animation to get
children folding paper and learning about the ancient art of origami is nothing short of inspired ! So take time to dive deep into these incredible websites and celebrate with us as we highlight some of the best of the net. |

| Because paper is universally available, the sites translates well across culture. Russian psychologists writing in English, sharing a Japanese art form to children around the world who use the Internet to fold paper! Surely this is only possible because of the Internet. Award Judges |
