Toy-ronto Origami Land displayed for first time!
TOY-RONTO Origami Land at Toronto City Hall on Doors Open Toronto, May 25-26, 2013 The whole exhibition is created and folded by Yuri and Katrin Shumakov from more than 10,000 piece of paper without using glue or cutting!
It was the first public display of our Toy-ronto Origami Land at City Hall featured our origami toy-versions of Old City Hall, New City Hall, Beaches, Lake with Sailing Ship and a 1.7-meter CN Tower in an 8-metre-long diorama with a fleet of origami hot air balloons above.
Watch a slide show of the Toy-ronto Origami Land display! Along with the display there was a Origami workshop area where visitors had an opportunity to try their hands in origami and fold an origami CN Tower or City Hall. It was a super popular spot for families!
A bit of history on how our origami Toy-ronto has started. It’s funny how origami brought Katrin to photography and then photography brought us back to origami… “There and back again” case! First, Katrin looked at Toronto from our Oriland / origami point of view and it prompted her to create this photo-series of Toy-ronto, where real Toronto is presented as a miniature city. And then the Toy-ronto photos brought Yuri and Katrin to creating the origami version of Toy-ronto! The circle is complete. You may watch a slide show of the Toy-ronto photo-series by Katrin:
Originally, since 2010 actually, Toy-ronto existed only as this photo-series, which, of course, incorporates many of our origami designs. But it changed at the start of this year as Toronto City Hall commissioned us to create an origami version of Toronto to exhibit it at City Hall during Doors Open. So the first public display of our Toy-ronto Origami Land at City Hall featured our origami toy-versions of Old City Hall, New City Hall, Beaches, Lake with Sailing Ship and a 1.7-meter CN Tower in an 8-metre-long diorama with a fleet of origami hot air balloons above. Also, along with the origami display, 200 images of Toy-ronto photo-series were projected on the Rotunda walls of City Hall during the Doors Open event.
