Zinnia elegans, commonly called Zinnia, is the most well known of about 22 species constituting the genus Zinnia of the family Compositae (Asteraceae). Native to Mexico and Central America, the genus Zinnia was named after Johann Gottfried Zinn, an eighteenth-century German botanist. Cheerful, fun-looking flowers of Zinnia are almost like a lollipop on a stick. The straight stems are crowned by a fountain of bright candy colors. You can fold this elegance from paper to add an extravagant, bright accent to an distinctive Oribana arrangement.
