Solomon's Seal is a charming ancient plant. Its genus name is Polygonatum that comes from the Greek ‘Polys’ meaning ‘many’ and ‘Gonu’ meaning ‘joint’, and refers to the many jointed root with the peculiar seal-like scars left from the previous year's growth. Other folk names are Drop berry, Lady's Seal, St. Mary's Seal, and Seal Root. The arching unbranched stems with large, alternate leaves support the white or pinkish bell-shaped flowers hanging in little drooping clusters of two to five, and exuding a subtle lily-like fragrance. The paper variant of Solomon’s Seal will be beautiful in paper flower arrangements.
