The name Chrysanthemum comes from the Greek language and means ‘gold flower’. In ancient time, the chrysanthemum flower has been known in a small yellow form. Now they come in a whole range of shapes and sizes and in all colors including bronze, lime green and brownish-red, except blue. Cultivated species, often informally called mums, have large flower heads; those of wild species are much smaller. Japan has a national festival devoted to the flower (9th Sept). In the past on this day, Chrysanthemum flowers replaced kusudama balls decorating rooms left from the previous seasonal holiday ‘the 5th day of the 5th moon’.
