Gerbera was described in 1737 and named after Traugott Gerber, a German doctor and botanist. Itís also known as African daisy, Transvaal daisy or Barberton daisy. Gerberas have showy bright daisy-like flowers that in fact are clusters of many small flowers forming large flower heads. They offer an amazingly wide palette of colors from clear white to deep red. A flower headís middle can be black, brown, green or yellow. Gerbera is associated with the star sign Leo. This very ornamental plant is extremely popular and fashionable now. Gerberaís beauty and poetry are welcome for flower compositions especially for oribana ones.
