As you know we do collaborate with Toronto Public Library closely and not only conduct origami workshops, but also regularly show Oriland displays there.
Recently we had 2-month Oriland display in College/Shaw branch, featuring Treasure Island, Sailing Ship, Oribana arrangements and, of course, Oriland Library Assistant, ie Goblin Boy with a miniature library of origami books.

Last year we had a larger display in St.James branch of Toronto Public Library. On that exhibition we displayed the whole kingdom of SunCity with SunCastle and Paper Museum, Gardens, Café, Magic Bazaar and Oriland Sea with Sailing Ships and flocks of origami fish in it. We are quite happy to inform you that we did a video of this exhibition available to watch on-line. So you are welcome to take a 10-minute virtual tour through SunCity – one of Oriland Kingdoms:

Enjoy :-)

Everything here was designed and folded from paper without cutting and gluing by the artists Yuri & Katrin Shumakov. Read more & see photos at

Join the club – our Oriland Goblins are glad to help you to find some literature for your summer reading :-) Of course, they specialize in origami books and can teach you on how to read origami diagrams in order to fold an ordinary sheet of paper into a wonderful 3d figure be it a bird, a flower or even a castle, …the whole paper world! :-)

Our Oriland Goblins are well educated, love sports, travel and have fun :-)

Each goblin is about 6 inches (15 cm) high and made of 17 pieces of paper, not counting glasses and little books that are also our origami creations.

Yes, our Oriland Goblin as Library Assistant was the hit of our Origami sessions and demonstrations in Toronto this summer. After receiving several requests we did cast some origami magic and now anyone can have such Oriland Goblin in their possession! Just visit Objets d’Art section of Oriland Store and order the Oriland Goblin including Librarian version with tiny golden glasses and a little origami book with diagrams of this book itself in it. http://www.oriland.com/store/artobjects/main.asp#Goblin

The photo of our Oriland Goblins we took on our Oriland exhibition last year was featured in Toronto Public Library’s What’sOn issue! They asked a permission and of course gave credits – it is always nice to be asked :-)

The Library print more than 75,000 copies each issue so Goblin’s pic will be seen by more than 1,200,000 of library patrons across Toronto! The What’sOn program guide is free and can be picked up here in Toronto in any library branch across the city or some public places, including City Hall.

It’s nice to be published :-)

Here is the original photo from that exhibition.

By the way, we recently did a video of that Oriland exhibition available on-line, so you are all welcome to take a 10-minute virtual tour through one of our Oriland Kingdoms, including those funny monsters :-) at www.oriland.com/portfolio/exhibits/main.asp

We had the great time teaching origami to kids in different branches of Toronto Public Library this summer. The workshops were a part of Summer Reading Club with this year’s theme – Destination Jungle. Many of the kids didn’t know origami before and tried folding for the first time. One of the popular models on these workshops was Origami Jungle flower a.k.a. our Jasmine flower folded from the large 8-inch (20cm) square of paper in bright colours (you may see the happy kids with finished Jungle flowers on the picture). We also taught a stalk and leaf and their connection to the flower without any glue. Kids & their parents were really fascinated!

Wanna fold your Origami Jungle Flower? Grab the paper and follow the easy steps here

Hello Oriland friends!

Here is the latest news from Oriland!

ORILAND ORIGAMI DISPLAY featuring Sailing Ship, Treasure Island, Oribana arrangements, Paper Spheres & Oriland Library Assistant!

Where: Toronto Public Library (College/Shaw Branch), Toronto, ON, Canada.

When: Summer, 2010 (till August 12th)

Here is a little peek in at our Oriland display we did set up recently at Toronto Public Library. The display is under the glass in a 2-level glass case (1.4×1.4m).

Oriland Library Assistant

Everybody loves to read and our Oriland Goblins are no exception! hehehe

Everything on the display was designed and made from paper in a style of origami art by us, Yuri and Katrin, Oriland Creators. Even spectacles are origami, made from foil paper… and the origami little book (just 1-inch in size) in the goblin’s hand has directions on how to fold this very book :-)

This Goblin Boy with his origami pals was displayed on many of our exhibitions, including the exhibition we had in Toronto Public Library last year.

The half of the display is devoted to “Origami Sailing” theme with 1-mast ship “St.Catherine” & the crew and the treasure island with a magician :-) Notable Oriland fish are on display too! And other part of the display includes our paper flower arrangements, paper spheres and of course, this cute Goblin – Oriland library assistant :-)

Oriland Origami Display

Oriland display is free and available for wide public at the working hours of the library.

The library located at 766 College St, Toronto, at Little Italy area – lovely place, by the way.

Oriland Origami Display

So, if you are in Toronto this summer, come along! Everyone is welcome!
